Earlier this week, the PFL announced that they have parted ways with Francis Ngannou, and with many speculating on what the former UFC heavyweight champion’s next move might be, he has now commented on his fighting future.
Ngannou (18-3 MMA), who left the UFC in January 2023 (relinquishing his heavyweight title in the process), signed with the PFL in May 2023 and only competed once for them in his three years with the promotion. In that lone fight, he made quick work of one of the promotion’s top fighters, Renan Ferreira, stopping him in the very first round in October 2024, which was the last time Ngannou competed in the cage.
He competed in twice as may boxing matches while with the PFL, and while he had an impressive professional debut in the ring – nearly beating the then world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, but losing by a narrow split decision – he didn’t fare too well in his second pro bout as he suffered a round two knockout defeat to Anthony Joshua.in March 2024.
When Ngannou, now 39-years-old, was asked if he would compete in MMA again in the future following his PFL departure, he replied with “Yes, of course,” and mentioned that there are plans in the works. Now the big question is… where will he find his next promotional home?
