Sunday night in the featured bout at UFC Freedom 250 from the White House, Sean O’Malley dismantled Canada’s Aiemann Zahabi in the second round with a swift series of punches, then added his own flair to the moment.
Through this victory, O’Malley snapped Zahabi’s seven-fight win streak and extended his to two, with his last win coming back in January over Song Yadong. ‘Suga’ looked extremely focused during his walk through the White House and to the octagon across the South Lawn, and he certainly delivered on what he predicted for the match, positioning himself for a shot at Petr Yan’s bantamweight title next, which he called for in his post fight interview.
Throughout the fight, O’Malley absorbed several leg kicks from Zahabi, who clearly had a strategy in mind of slowing the former champion down. If the fight had lasted any longer, the damage to O’Malley’s leg could have become a serious issue, but in the second round he found an opportunity for a well-placed straight left, which sent Zahabi to the octagon floor. On the way up, ‘Suga’ landed a quick two-punch combination which ended the fight.
While Zahabi was falling to the canvas for the last time, O’Malley looked away and saluted the crowd, adding a perfect theme for the occasion to his knockout victory.
