IBF Calls Purse Bids For Canelo vs. Scull

The purse bids for Canelo Alvarez vs. William Scull have been ordered by the IBF.

The bids will take place on June 6, leaving Canelo with plenty to consider. He has just secured a unanimous decision win over Jaime Munguia to retain his Undisputed Super Middleweight Title. A fight with Scull will be tough to sell. Boxing fans want Alvarez to face David Benavidez, followed by a fight with Terence Crawford.

Canelo could vacate or be stripped. If he decides to go ahead with the purse bids, he will receive a 65-35 split. By facing his mandatory, Canelo can secure bigger paydays since fights with Benavidez or Crawford would be for undisputed. He had faced his mandatories previously when he was trying to unify.

He fought Avni Yildirim, his WBC mandatory, in 2021, which set up a unification against Billy Joe Saunders. Alvarez also boxed his WBO mandatory John Ryder. Scull is 22-0, but Canelo is by far his toughest test. His previous bout was a win over Sean Hemphill. If Canelo wants to remain undisputed, he must take on Scull.
