Teofimo Lopez vs. Steve Claggett Confirmed For June 29

Teofimo Lopez vs. Steve Claggett has been confirmed for June 29 in Miami.

Lopez holds the WBO Junior Welterweight Belt, which he acquired after beating Josh Taylor. He then made the first defense of the belt against Jamaine Ortiz. Lopez secured a controversial unanimous decision win. While Lopez did land more power punches, there was a perception that Ortiz had outboxed him. The performance damaged Lopez’s desire for the big fights.

Lopez Sr. wanted a summer unification with Devin Haney, while Teo also called out Terence Crawford before the Ortiz performance. Claggert’s record stands at 38-7-2. 26 of those wins are by knockout. He has won his last nine fights, which includes 7 KOs. Claggert does not have a win against a big name. But a win over Lopez would change that.
