Tonight, under the bright lights of the RAC Arena in Perth, top-5 ranked flyweight Kai Kara-France spoiled the excitement of the crowd by finishing their Australian countryman Steve Erceg with a devastating knockout in the opening stanza of UFC 305’s co-main event.
Coming into the bout, most saw Erceg as the favorite, but his opponent started with a level of aggressive striking, matched with crisp speed, that was clearly the difference maker on this night.
Acting as if there was no time to waste, Kara-France was after the Australian right out of the gate, and he eventually caught him with a very skilled step-in overhand left, set up by a jab-cross combo that narrowly missed. While Erceg was able to make it to his feet, he was now extremely compromised, and the New Zealand native sensed this.

Kara-France continued to move forward, forcing his opponent to strike in the pocket, and this time he ended things with a hard right cross that absolutely crumbled his opponent to the canvas. From there, it only took a few punches to the grounded fighter before the referee had no choice but to halt the action.
This bout served as an important bounce back win for Kai Kara France, given that he had fallen short in his last two outings. Similarly, Erceg is now the one that is facing a two-fight losing streak for the first time in his career.
During his post fight interview, “Don’t Blink” expressed that with this win behind him, he feels that he may be next in line for a shot at Alexandre Pantoja’s 125-pound title.
