HBO has ordered a pilot for a new half-hour comedy set in the world of professional boxing in Las Vegas.
Written and executive produced by Insecure creator Issa Rae, the untitled series centers on Menzel, a 30-year-old barber and aspiring sports manager, and JB, an up-and-coming boxer attempting to build his career.
The show will explore male friendship as the pair deal with ambition, insecurity, loneliness and the pressures that accompany success in boxing.
Prentice Penny, who previously worked with Rae on Insecure, will direct the pilot while also serving as showrunner and executive producer.
No casting details or potential release date have been announced. The pilot marks Rae’s latest collaboration with HBO following Insecure, A Black Lady Sketch Show and Rap Sh!t.
