Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield (20-0, 13 KOs) won the vacant WBA lightweight title with a unanimous decision over Lucas Bahdi (20-1, 15 KOs) at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
The judges scored the fight 116-110, 119-108 and 115-111 in Schofield’s favor.
Schofield dropped Bahdi in the third round and controlled much of the fight with his speed and combinations. Bahdi remained dangerous and scored an 11th-round knockdown, but Schofield recovered and finished the fight to secure his first world championship.
The victory puts Schofield in position for potential unification fights at lightweight.
